How we handle your data.

Last updated May 23, 2026. This page explains, in plain language, what Return on Compute does and does not collect, where your inputs live, and how to remove them.

The short version

You can use the entire calculator without logging in, without an account, and without giving us an email address. We do not sell or share your data.

  • No login is required to use the calculator.
  • Your scenario inputs are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device unless you generate a share link or export a PDF.
  • When you export a PDF, we ask for an email so we can follow up about the product. That email is sent to our lead store.
  • We use Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights, both of which are cookieless and do not track you across sites.

What we collect, and when

Calculator inputs

Every input you enter (organization profile, compute spend, allocation, value buckets, diagnostic scores) is stored in your browser's local storage under the key roc-scenario-v0.1. It stays there until you clear your browser storage, open the page in a private window, or click reset.

Your inputs are never sent to our servers as part of normal calculator use. Calculations happen entirely in your browser.

Share links

When you click Share link from the results dashboard, your scenario is compressed and encoded into the URL fragment (the part after the#). URL fragments are not sent to web servers by browsers, so even when someone visits a share link, your data does not transit our servers. The recipient's browser decodes and renders it locally.

PDF exports and email capture

Before generating a PDF, we ask for your email and optionally your name and role. These fields are POSTed to our /api/leads endpoint along with non-identifying organization metadata (industry, AI maturity, organization type).

We use this to follow up about the product and, eventually, to share aggregate benchmarks. Your email is stored alongside the metadata you provided. We do not store your scenario inputs.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics for visit counts and conversion funnel events, and Vercel Speed Insights for performance. Both are cookieless and do not track you across sites. Custom events we record include: calculator started, step completed, results viewed, share link copied, PDF export, and email captured.

Events include aggregate properties (which step, which sample loaded, ROC bucket band) but never your raw inputs.

What we do not do

  • We do not set advertising or tracking cookies.
  • We do not fingerprint your device.
  • We do not sell or rent your data to third parties.
  • We do not share your inputs with other users.
  • We do not use your scenario data to train AI models.

Data retention

Calculator inputs in your browser persist until you clear them. To reset, open the calculator and use your browser's storage tools, or visit the site in a private window.

Lead capture records (email plus optional name, role, and organization metadata) are retained for active product follow-up. Request deletion at any time using the contact below.

Your rights

You can request that we delete the lead record associated with your email. Send a note to hello@returnoncompute.com from the address you originally used, and we will remove it within 30 days.

You can also clear your browser's local storage at any time to remove the scenario data on your device.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change what we collect or how we use it, we will update the date at the top of this page and surface a notice on the homepage.
